Plot: Adela Quested, a young Englishwoman, travels to India in the late 1920s to visit her fiance, a British magistrate posted in a small town; her traveling companion is his mother Mrs. Moore. They want to see something of the country and to meet everyday Indians, but are frustrated by the British community’s insistence that relations with the locals are best experienced from a distance. Finally, a friend introduces them to a Muslim doctor whom Mrs. Moore had seen briefly on her visit to a mosque. He takes them on an outing to the nearby caverns (a local attraction), but what happens there threatens to destroy any civility between the British and Indian societies.

Of Human Bondage -W. Somerset Maugham
Jane Eyre -Charlotte Bronte
Oh, that’s tough!

I’m getting ready to read Pride and Prejudice myself (it’s in my stocking and I’m patiently waiting!). I really enjoyed Jane Eyre. It is about a young girl who is raised by an abusive aunt and then sent to a children’s home. When she gets older, she becomes a governess and begins a romance with the man that lives there. Then she moves away and works in a school, and eventually goes back.

Wuthering Heights and Oliver Twist are also on my list that I want to read.
Chantal | Dec 21, 2009

hmmmmm read wuthering heights its not the average love story and it truly shakes a person with the violent emotions which run throughout it
_^^_optimistic_^^_ | Dec 21, 2009

There are a lot of great choices there! I would choose Frankenstein if you like gory, Withering Heights if you liked the Twilight series, Great Expectations if you enjoy a good story, and Jane Eyre if you like a good chick story. If your just looking for short, Frankenstein is probaly the shortest. Good Luck.,
wmjas | Dec 21, 2009

I should say to you to choose between Pride and Prejudice, Oliver Twist and Robinson Crusoe. Maybe I would choose Robinson Crusoe. But I don’t know what genres of books do you like and neither how old are you. You have also to do a summary or a commentary?
ciobotea_andrei88 | Dec 21, 2009

Pride and Prejudice. I haven’t read many of the others, but you should still read this one. Its amazing! Its pretty fast paced and the characters are well developed and the dialog is entertaining. The story line is also intriguing, it has interesting twists. Its basically about a girl, Elizabeth, and her sisters and how they all need to get married off. It may sound boring, but its not because of all the twists. I read this book on my own, not for school, and I loved it!
My other suggestions would be Wuthering Heights and Great Expectations

i have the perfect dress in mind but…?
okay, so my school’s kind of stupid + we don’t have a dance, but we do have a formal banquet. so anyway, my idea for the perfect dress for me is this: barbie’s sugar plum princess dress at the end of barbie in the nutcracker!it’s perfect for me, because i kind of look like barbie and i totally love her 2.so anyway, my question is this: do you have any idea where i can find this dress, or how i can make it?i’d appreciate any help!xoxo

You could always look at a costume store and see if there is one and you could fix it up and make it look like a real dress. Or you could have someone that could sew, you could give them a pattern and then they could sew it. Have FUN!!!

How can I stop this dream from haunting me any more?
I’ll just say this up front..

I was a victim of rape, of an ex boyfriend we dated for three years, i broke up with him for the final last time &he obviously didnt like that, and three months later it resulted in abuse and well that other word i stated at first.
after the whole thing with cops, hospitals, detectives, counseling, everything..its been about seven months now.
last friday night my sister was being real mean and said the worst thing anyone could ever say to me. long story short she said "youve had people in here whhen no one was home! remember the last time you had *name* here? yeah, that wasnt rape, hun." i took out the door screaming and crying.
that night, the next, and last night, I have had dreams, or say nightmares, of him coming back and raping me.
I honestly dont want to fall asleep tonight, I cant take the feeling I get when I wake up every morning.

I dont need sympathy, thank you.
I just wonder if theres anything, anything i could do to stop this.

Set up a dream-catcher. I used to have some bad dreams when I was a kid, and I haven’t had the dream in a very long time. If it’s just luck or if that dream-catcher really does work, then I’d recommend it.

			Timmy! | Oct 26, 2009

You should probably seek therapy to help relieve the memory of the trauma you experienced.
backinbowl | Oct 26, 2009

Even if you do have guys over, and even if maybe you even intended to have sex, and then changed your mind. Even if you got naked and then changed your mind. If you said no, and he didn’t stop, it was rape. People need to understand that. Sometimes people do things and in the middle of it, they suddenly changed their mind. Sometimes a guy can’t handle that and will continue. But if you said no, it is rape. Even if you had sex before or multiple times with this guy, and this one time you changed your mind and said no, that is rape. People need to understand that.

So anyway, your mind wants you to deal with this in some way. Remember, you are everyone you meet in your dreams. Your mind produces images of your ex boyfriend, but remember that is not really him. That is an image your mind produces. That is you. So in a way, you are wanting to deal with this. You are wanting the power to say no, and you do have this in your dreams. You do have to realize that you are dreaming and that can be hard.

Do some research on how to lucid dream and if this does happen to you again, and you are in the dream and know it is a dream, then you can say to yourself "This is me. This is not my boyfriend really. This is my own brain creating an image of him." Then if you can, you can talk to your own dream image. You will really be talking to yourself though. It is weird, but you will be asking "Why are you here in this dream. What do you represent?"

You’ll actually get an answer. It may not be what you want to hear, but I don’t think you can lie to yourself in a dream like that, because it will be your subconcious part talking back to you. So anyway, it might help you, or at least be less frightening to you if you can comfront it. I sometime still dream of monsters or things I used to be afraid of. Now I just have weird dreams of riding a tornado, instead of being blown away. And sometimes a monster who looks like swamp thing shows up and just stands there, because I am not afraid of him.
It is pretty weird, but at least I am not scared.
VeiledVisitor | Oct 26, 2009

Have you thought about a support group? You’ve been through therapy but maybe you need to talk about this with other victims who know what you’re going through. That way you can work on the inner conflicts that are causing the nightmares.
marv | Oct 26, 2009

Ok, I am also I victim of the same.

Let me start of by saying, your sister is a b*tch for saying that. It is in no way shape or form your fault! And that is the first thing you need to understand. Also, I have to be honest and tell you, the dreams may get better and may begin to happen less often but more than likely will never go away. It has been 8 years since I was raped and I still have those terrible, screaming, kicking, crying, sweating nightmares. I really do not have advice to get rid of these nightmares, this is something you need to work through, it is over. If you need someone to talk to, it will be confidential and unjudged. melisheart3@yahoo.com

Boot Camp (Slipstreamed CD): Insert your Windows installer disc?
Hi there, im having problems with boot camp. Ive made a slipstreamed cd from a genuine windows xp sp1 dc and i slipstreamed it and made it a bootable ISO and burned it on a blank DVD. I insert it into my mac, CD is recognized on finder, but when i try to install it on Boot Camp it says this: Insert your Windows installer disc and wait a few seconds for the disc to be recognized. I don’t know what to do now please help, any tips or links please comment below!

I followed this slipstreaming tutorial on youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xL0hX753h H4

Heres some pictures of the my problems:

http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/pp35/ AppleGeekOnline/Picture25.png

Bootcamp probably doesn’t recognize the slipstreamed disk as a real Windows installer. However, it doesn’t matter now- the Bootcamp Utility has done all of its work. You can do the rest of the install on your own. Restart your Mac and hold down option as it starts up (while your still at the gray screen). It should show you 3 options to boot- Macintosh HD, BOOTCAMP (both with a hard drive above them), and your XP DVD with a picture of a disk above it). Choose to boot off of the disk and the installer should run. Make sure you choose the last (3rd) partition when you install XP. After it’s installed, use your Mac OS X install DVD to get the drivers and the Windows Boot Camp utility.

The eldest son, Alfred, soon finds himself in love with his brother’s fiance, and things get worse when he discovers a growing passion between Susanna and Tristan. LOL well lets he most likely be my age the legend about him being a baby is just a rumor. If he was still just a baby why would he married a wonderful women like Psyche at a young age.. yes he does mean it when people fall in love but he normally want soul mates to be together rather them seeing the wrong person he isn’t a bad guy after all. He used a bow and arrow which he normally good at. he normally aim for the heart because that where love is found. love is found in the heart. it one of the reasons why the heart is a symbol for love and passion. in the old stories he once fire a love arrow at Apollo for making fun of his archery skills. Apollo soon fell in love with the first girl he saw. that how it normally work it one they mean "Love by first sight." normally Cupid’s arrows only allow people fall in love with the first person they see. So it could be anybody. But Cupid isn’t a bad guy at all. he normally just want more love in the world that all.

Can we increase lifespan and youth for your young generation, or will it stay same/decrease?
I’m 26, will my generation by the time we’re in our 60s be younger, stronger, and healthier than the previous generation before us, or will it stay the same relatively, or will it actually get worse and we’ll be getting older sooner and dying younger?

It’s a double edged dagger. On one side we have increasing technology, increasing medicine and knowledge, better supplements and nutrients than ever before, more awareness and understanding of illness, but on the other hand we have obesity, more food than ever, rising pollution, increasing population, new resistant and more powerful illnesses coming out, among other things.

Can we make 50 the new 30 eventually, or is that something that definitely won’t happen in our lifetime?
How long do you think the average person considering we don’t get murdered, commit suicide, die from a drug overdose, get cancer, live to nowadays? 70-80?

Also once we’re 60+ will we just expect to be sick cripples or what?

By that age, I guess it’s safe to say, that we cannot drive like maniacs or get into arguments and raise our blood pressure anymore can we?

My hypothesis is that average lifespan will decrease. stress, lack of sleep, and misunderstandings of nutrirtion all lead to cardiovascualr disease, poorer immune systems, obesity, etc.

I think before we begin to improve, people need to know how to take care of themselves better. Although one may think a ton of stress means their working hard and are a contributing member of society, too much stress actually begins to deteriorate the human body, especially with the heart. It can even permanently damage the mind. Sleep is also critical. In our society, almost everyone does not get enough sleep. This kills brain cells along with destroys the immune system and promotes eating problems.

Fifty can be the new thirty, but government, business, and the people need to promote a healtheir lifestyle than the high stress demanding life style of today.

I also beleive hydrogenated fats and artificial sweetener desparetley need to be outlawed. Food companies go out of their way to promote something as healthy when in fact it is not.

that i think only time will tell
skc0104 | Apr 17, 2008

So many questions. I belong to the first generation of Americans not expected to live longer than our parents did. I am 45, no, not a baby-boomer..just a few years later. Obesity is a big, (excuse my pun) problem–Do you know that there not any overweight centurions? It is the only thing they have in common. Many people have stopped smoking, yet the cancer rate has not gone down. The only people I see who look younger than people did before are the people in Hollywood. In general population, no. I can’t predict what will happen to your generation in the future, but you are young, Hey, enjoy yourself!!!!!! Don’t worry too much about this

check my poem please?
is there 4 figures of speech in here…? and do you understand what it means?
its for a english assignment, so i need your opinion. (9th grade) thanks!
As the sun falls slowly behing the trees,
a dark blanket follows in equal speed.
like a spell has been cast to vanquish the light,
the morning now seeps into the night.

As if a law was set in stone,
the moon will rise to seize its throne,
trailed by his stars for knights and gaurds,
surrounded by royal black gardens and court yards.

Within that black shadows will rome,
seeking the darkness which is their home.
creatures and creeps will rustle and sigh,
some will take flight, some will run and hide.

But with every victory, there comes a loss,
and soon the light and dark will cross.
the sun will return in with its rays of fire,
forceing the moon to submit and retire.

And though no blood is really shead,
the sky fades from blue, to purple, then red.
an endless war as it may seem,
but night will return; prepare to dream
